Windsor, May 3, 2023 — The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce is delighted to have the support of our Chamber network partners for our policy resolutions submitted for the Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s (OCC) Policy Compendium, 2023-2026. These resolutions covered our burgeoning wine sector, the evolving auto industry, and growing international student population.

“After reaching out to our Chamber partners locally and across the province we are pleased to see the level of support for our policy resolutions,” said Chamber CEO Rakesh Naidu. “The issues covered by our submitted resolutions are key to the long-term success of our local economy. From the automotive sector, to wine production, to our international students, these groups are key to our region’s prosperity.”

The Chamber submitted three policy resolutions for consideration at the OCC Annual General Meeting. They included two sunsetting resolutions that were being renewed for another three-year period in the policy compendium and one new one. The two sunsetting resolutions focused on eliminating unfair taxes and regulations for Ontario Wine, and supporting international student entrepreneurs and will both remain in the policy compendium until 2026.

The Chamber is especially pleased with the 99% support that it received for its new resolution Fostering EV Success in Ontario. This resolution called on the Ontario government to develop the required infrastructure and workforce to make electric vehicles successful across the province. “We know the future of the auto industry is electric and that it will require the necessary support, infrastructure, and workforce for the transition to be smooth for businesses and consumers” iterated Naidu.

The 2023-2026 OCC Policy Compendium will be released in the coming weeks.
