Official Statement from Ryan Donally, President & CEO, Windsor Essex Chamber of Commerce
Today’s announcement by the Ontario government committing $6.4 billion to postsecondary education is a strong and welcome investment in Ontario’s future.
Postsecondary institutions are critical drivers of talent development, innovation, and economic competitiveness. This funding will help ensure our colleges and universities can continue to equip students with the skills and experiences employers need, while supporting research, workforce readiness, and long-term economic growth.
Our organization has had policy resolutions on the books since the spring of 2024 calling for enhanced and sustainable postsecondary funding, and we have consistently raised this issue at every opportunity with government and decision-makers. Today’s announcement reflects the importance of that ongoing advocacy and the shared recognition that postsecondary education must be a priority. In communities like Windsor-Essex and across the province, a strong postsecondary system is essential to attracting investment, supporting employers, and creating opportunity for the next generation. We commend the government for recognizing the importance of education and skills development as a cornerstone of Ontario’s prosperity, and we look forward to working together to maximize the impact of this investment for students, businesses, and communities alike.
